Tulane Injuries

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Washington State vs. Utah State

Monday, Dec. 22 2 p.m. ET

Washington State Transfer Portal

  • CB Kenny Worthy (384 snaps)

  • LB Anthony Palano (382 snaps)

  • EDGE Malaki Ta'ase (255 snaps)

  • Backup QB Jaxson Potter (164 snaps)

  • WR Tony Freeman (557 yards, 3 TDs)

  • DL Mike Sandjo (105 snaps)

  • DL Max Baloun (100 snaps)

Palano started early in the season but saw his playing time decrease as the year progressed due to tackling issues. He will be available for the bowl.

Washington State initially wasn't going to let players in the portal play, but now it will. However, that likely wouldn't apply to Worthy and Potter, who entered the portal before the coaching change.

Washington State Injuries

  • C Brock Dieu (missed finale)

  • WR Carter Pabst (last played in Week 13)

Washington State Coaching Changes

Jimmy Rogers left to take the head coach position at Iowa State. He will not stay with the team for the bowl, which means there is an increased chance of opt-outs, portal movement, and other coaches going with him. Stay tuned for further updates.

DC Jesse Bobbit will serve as the interim head coach.

Utah State Transfer Portal

  • Starting WR Braden Pegan (767 snaps; will not play)

Utah State Injuries

  • TE Broc Lane (missed finale)

Boca Raton Bowl: Toledo vs. Louisville

  • Starting DE Malachi Davis (442 snaps; led team in sacks)

  • Starting S Braden Awls (602 snaps)

  • Starting LB Chris D' Appolonia (638 snaps)

None are expected to play.

Toledo Potential Opt-Outs

  • S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (headed to Senior Bowl)

  • CB Avery Smith

  • CB Andre Fuller

  • S Nasir Bowers

  • RB Chip Trayanum

  • WR Junior Vandeross III

All are practicing, so their availability looks promising. However, McNeil-Warren is also nursing a bit of an injury. The All-American is a projected early-round draft pick, so I could see him sitting.

Toledo Injuries

  • QB Tucker Gleason (doubtful)

  • Starting LG Carter Fouty (639 snaps)

Expect Kalieb Osborne to start under center. The freshman signal caller went 15-24 for 260 yards in mainly mop up duty outside of the regular season finale where he looked good vs. Central Michigan after taking over for Gleason at the very end of the 1H. He finished 5-7 for 108 yards (1 TD) and added 68 rushing yards on 10 attempts (sans two sacks) with the Rockets out-scoring the Chips 21-0 after halftime.

Toledo Coaching Changes

Jason Candle took the UConn opening, so co-offensive coordinator and QB coach Robert Weiner will serve as interim. Some other coaches have departed as well, including:

  • Defensive coordinator/LB coach Vince Kehres (Syracuse)

  • Co-defensive coordinator/S coach Ross Watson (Iowa State)

  • Special teams coordinator Stanton Weber (Kansas State)

Offensive line coach Mike Hallett will call the offense, while CB coach Perry Eliano will call the defense. A number of graduate assistants will step up into bigger roles as well, per Weiner.

None worth noting.

Southern Miss Potential Opt-Outs

  • CB Josh Moten (841 snaps)

Southern Miss Injuries

  • LT Blake Bustard (missed finale; 490 snaps)

Defensive coordinator John Hauser will take over as the interim head coach.

Hawaii Bowl: Cal vs. Hawaii

Wednesday, Dec. 24 8 p.m.

  • TE Mason Mini

  • WR Jordan King

  • WR Mark Hamper

  • S Isaiah Crosby (hasn’t played since in Week 4)

  • OLB Ryan McCulloch (hasn’t played since in Week 4)

Rate Bowl: New Mexico vs. Minnesota

Friday, Dec. 2 4:30 p.m. ET

New Mexico Injuries

  • G Richard Pearce (last played in Week 12)

  • S Drew Speech (missed final two games)

  • DT Xavier Slayton (missed final two games)

  • WR Michael Buckley (hurt in Week 6)

  • CB Abraham Williams (hurt in Week 9)

The first three have a decent shot to suit up.

New Mexico Potential Opt-Outs

  • DE Keyshawn James-Newby (could see him getting P4 looks)

Minnesota Transfer Portal

  • RB2 Fame Ijeboi (495 yards)

  • WR Malachi Coleman (174 snaps)

  • WR Kenric Lanier (149 snaps)

Minnesota Potential Opt-Outs

  • WR Le'Meke Brockington (declared for NFL draft)

  • DE Anthony Smith

Fleck did not say if Brockington would play in the bowl or not.

Minnesota Injuries

  • CB Za'Quan Bryan (missed finale)

  • RG Marcellus Marshall (missed finale)

  • LB Matt Kingsbury (missed finale)

Not sure if the first two were injuries or if Minnesota just decided to play others. Head coach PJ Fleck (who is 6-0 in bowl games at Minnesota) did play some more youth toward the end of the season.

Starting CB John Nestor and starting LB Devon Williams also returned for the finale after missing the previous game due to injury.

First Responder Bowl: FIU vs. UTSA

Friday, Dec. 26 8 p.m. ET

None will play in the bowl. FIU will be extremely shorthanded in the secondary.

FIU Injuries

  • QB Joe Pesansky (foot)

  • QB Keyone Jenkins (groin)

Pesansky had started a few games before original starter Keyone Jenkins returned from injury and started the finale. Head coach Willie Simmons said if the bowl game were played on Dec. 17 that third-string quarterback Clayton Dees would start. However, he expects both Pesansky and Jenkins to recover in time for the bowl game. He even said "we might put a wrinkle in and start them both."

UTSA Transfer Portal

  • Starting NT Chidera Otutu (287 snaps)

  • Starting CB KK Meier (399 snaps)

  • Starting CB Davin Martin (437 snaps)

  • Starting DE Kenny Ozowalu (stud; 341 snaps)

  • DE Daemian Wimberly (168 snaps)

It sounds like more names are coming after head coach Jeff Traylor said his team will "be a shell of themselves" for the bowl game. He said he expects to be without 10-20 players due to a mix of opt-outs, injuries and transfer portal entries. I'd guess the Roadrunners will be without 6 or 7 starters on defense. TBD on the offensive side of the ball.

UTSA Potential Opt-Outs

  • LB Shad Banks Jr.

UTSA Injuries

  • OLB Vic Shaw (missed finale; 349 snaps)

  • RG Darrell Jones (hurt in Week 13; didn't play finale)

  • DE Dani Dennis-Sutton

  • RB Kaytron Allen

  • CB A.J. Harris

  • WR Trebor Pena

  • LB Amare Campbell

I would imagine Penn State is much more likely to have opt-outs with an interim head coach, and captain Durant has already done so.

Penn State Injuries

  • QB Drew Allar (out for year)

  • LB Tony Rojas (out for year)

Penn State Coaching Changes

The Nittany Lions fired head coach James Franklin during the season, which led to Terry Smith taking over as interim head coach. Matt Campbell will take over next season.

Co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Ty Howle has also been hired as the offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech.

Finally, offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is set to become Florida's next offensive line coach.

Potential Opt-Outs

  • CB Jeadyn Lukus

  • QB Cade Klubnik (says he will play)

  • LT Blake Miller (says he will play)

Head coach Dabo Swinney said he doesn't expect any more opt-outs, but that could obviously change. Clemson is looking to extend its FBS record of consecutive years with a postseason victory to 15. DE Will Heldt will play (returning next season).

  • Starting LB Wade Woodaz (surgery; will not play)

BYU Potential Opt-Outs

  • LT Isaiah Jatta

  • RB LJ Martin

  • WR Chase Roberts

  • DT Keanu Tanuvasa

It sounds like everyone is planning to play, as of writing, including starting quarterback Bear Bachmeier (ankle).

  • WR Simeon Evans (last played in Week 11; 211 snaps)

North Texas Coaching Changes

Head coach Eric Morris took the job at Oklahoma State and will not be with the team for the bowl. I'd guess North Texas might have a handful of key opt-outs, with a few potentially following Morris to Stillwater, where they'd instantly start.

Neal Brown will be the next head coach in Denton. Brown did say everybody but Mestemaker (who was receiving an award) attended the team meeting on Monday for what it's worth.
