Joey G from Cooper City wants to know: What MLB pitcher do you see being a surprise contender in this year's Cy Young race?

Marc Says – That would would Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes, who has quickly become Milwaukee's staff ace. He developed a new pitch in the offseason and the National League will have a hard time catching up to it.

Show Me The Money

It took 44 years years for the league to expand beyond 16 games.

Now in a span of two years the playoffs have swelled to 14 teams and, beginning this year, the regular season grows to 17 games.

The NFL has managed to whore itself out the networks and Roger Goodell, acting on behalf of its greedy and unscrupulous and owners, is its primary pimp.

Just saying.

Projectiles

It's never too early to speculate about NFL season win totals. Or to gamble on them.

As far as the latter is concerned, Caesars William Hill released its initial projected win totals for each team for the coming season.

It's rare to see them posted this early, before the NFL Draft. There's a lot that will still happen between now and then, with the draft later this month being a major event to come. But NFL season win totals are open for wagering and with it NFL Nation's staff of reporters, filled with giddiness about offseason additions (New England Patriots), chose to forgo a wait-and-see approach for rebuilding situations (Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets), and instead anxiously offer early advice on each of the 32 teams projected season win totals. For instance:

BALTIMORE: Lamar Jackson has won an NFL-best 81% of his games since taking over as Baltimore's starter midway through the 2018 season and the Ravens return 19 starters from a team that won 11 games last season. But after taking advantage of the league's easiest schedule in 2020, the Ravens face the NFL's second-toughest schedule this year (.559).

MIAMI: The Dolphins played more rookies than any team in 2020, including QB Tua Tagovailoa and three starting offensive linemen, so natural development and the signing of free-agent receiver Will Fuller V should make that group better.

PITTSBURGH: Mike Tomlin has not had a losing season in his 14 seasons, tying Marty Schottenheimer for the longest such streak to start an NFL head-coaching career. But the Steelers crumbled down the stretch last season, losing five of their last six games, including a playoff loss to the Browns. Now, Pittsburgh must play the NFL's toughest schedule with a 39-year-old Ben Roethlisberger and a suspect offensive line.

Grinding Out The Profits

A Pair Of Garbage Cans

From the Playbook NBA-Only Hoops Newsletter: A garbage-can contest today pairs the league's No. 14 seeds (or second-worst) from each conference when Houston takes on Orlando, meaning this game has little impact on the fate of either of these frauds. What we do have, though, is a great scheduling spot that is simply too good to pass over.

It starts with the Rockets arriving off a 13-point same-season revenger at home Friday night against Denver with another same-season avenger on tap tomorrow night in Miami. Meanwhile, Houston's 6-16 ATS record this season in non-conference clashes is certainly not praiseworthy. Nor is its 1-11 ATS mark on Sundays this season.

If you think the Magic won't be focused this evening, then guess again – a 132-90 loss to the Rockets in their season-opener says otherwise. With it, Orlando has suffered only two losses by a margin of 40-plus points since 1990.

Remember, Houston is 1-12 SUATS this season versus non-conference opponents seeking revenge from a same-season defeat of 4 or more points. The only win occurred in a 15-point loss as a 19-point dog at Utah.

It's time to take out the garbage.
